Eleni Karimali designs the new Sarlis Jewellery store

Just a few minutes from the Palace of the Grand Master, one of the most important examples of European military architecture and a UNESCO world heritage site, the Sarlis Jewellery store bursts into new life, renovated in bright, colourful style. For the new opening of this important store on the island of Rhodes, architect Eleni Karimali has found inspiration in the latest trends, with daring blue on the outside walls and marble effect in the interior, styling every detail with care and selecting materials with the most beneficial technical characteristics.

Eleni Karimali was born in the United States of America and before founding her firm on Rhodes in 2011 she obtained a degree from the Politecnico in Turin. Karimali oversees all phases of design and construction and her portfolio includes projects in the residential, retail, office, hotel and commercial sectors.

For the renovation of the Sarlis Jewellery store, the architecture firm chose to use marble-effect porcelain stoneware floor and wall tiles from the Ceramica Del Conca Boutique collection.

The colour chosen is Silver, although the pink velvet furnishings and the unusual light fittings with pinkish fringes reflected in the large ceiling mirror play a larger role in establishing the colours perceived when entering the store. Boutique Silver is inspired by a choice marble from Turkey and has a grey background with tone-on-tone shade variations and ochre veining.  More delicate than dark marble varieties yet more striking than classical white, this porcelain stoneware slab is the perfect choice for covering interiors, leaving creativity free rein when it comes to the furnishings. The predominance of grey in its subtly varied colouring makes it particularly suitable for interiors designed in elegant, metropolitan style - like that of a jewellery store.

These ceramic slabs’ Shine finish is created through the thick application of a special glaze, which provides an unprecedented level of reflectivity and chromatic depth. With Boutique, architects can create a seamless transition between rooms, producing surfaces that are uninterrupted from floor to ceiling as part of exciting interior designs.

Del Conca large slabs, in the oversize 120x260 cm size, go beyond the limits of classic ceramics and open up new possibilities for use on worktops, cabinets, tables and many more items, creating a total look embracing the floor, wall and furniture.
