Masterchef Italia continues to surprise its audience with innovative initiatives, taking the culinary competition beyond national borders. In yesterday's episode on February 5, the judges accompanied the contestants to Norway to explore Nordic cuisine, but before leaving, they had to face a ‘Mystery Box’ challenge that celebrated multiculturalism. The challenge involved the Roots restaurant in Modena, a project founded by Caroline Caporossi and Jessica Rosval. The latter, a Canadian chef with a successful career alongside Massimo Bottura, has created a place that is not only a restaurant but also a space for integration and training for migrant women. A comfortable coworking space open to the public on weekdays, it transforms into a full-fledged restaurant for dinner, and on Saturdays also for lunch, with a menu that changes with each training cycle inspired by the origins of the students. In 2022, the restaurant was well received by the public and also won several awards, such as the one for Social Responsibility in Food from Food&Wine Italia magazine.
The most concrete and challenging implementation of the project took place in April 2022, with the Municipality of Modena granting the use of some rooms in the San Paolo complex overlooking the courtyard that surrounds an ancient holm oak tree.
The restaurant floors were laid with Ceramica Faetano's Frammenti collection in the 20x20c size, in Terracotta color, which goes well with the light and elegant wooden furnishings, the straw and wicker accessories, and the bright colors of the paintings on the walls.
Ceramica Faetano's FRAMMENTI collection is inspired by Venetian terrazzo. It was created using the same technique as Venetian terrazzo, where grit and crushed stone are combined to create solid-color floors with many small colored fragments. Not only in floors, but also in wall coverings and decorative objects, this irregular texture is making its mark and excelling in modern living spaces designed by architects and interior designers. Frammenti is fully in line with this trend and is the perfect solution for those who love classic style and for anyone who wants their home to keep up with the times. Frammenti in the Venetian terrazzo version is available in two patterns and different shades, from warm colors reminiscent of the earth to those of the sea.
The collection also includes a brick, low wall, glossy solid color in nine shades and in a 7.5X40 format. In the Roots Restaurant, it was used as a covering in the kitchens, laid vertically in white. A very practical and perfect choice to brighten and add elegance to the entire work environment.
The Roots project is an example of how cooking can be a powerful tool for social inclusion, giving women the opportunity to build a career in the restaurant industry. Jessica Rosval is renowned for her innovative and sustainable cuisine, and her work has been recognized with several awards, including a Michelin star and the title of ‘best female chef’ from various publications. The restaurant is not only a culinary success, but also a model of social responsibility, with proceeds going to support integration projects.
