Wood and concrete-effect flooring for a minimalist and welcoming dental clinic

The design by AF Architetti, led by Beniamino Fabio Arco and Giovanna Falzone, for this clinic located in Leonforte in the heart of Sicily, was born from a challenge: to combine the functional sterility required by dental protocol with the material strength that evokes the warmth of the Sicilian hinterland landscape.   

The concept behind the Odontoiatria e Salute S.r.l project is based primarily on a dialogue between opposites: transparency and light. The large glass surfaces dematerialize the boundary between the clinical environment and the landscape, using natural light as a tool for visual comfort. The choice of materials was decisive in defining the hierarchy of spaces. The neutrality of the work surfaces was contrasted with the materiality of wood and stone. The wood is worked in a continuous grain to instill a sense of organic calm and welcome, while the floor, in concrete-effect porcelain stoneware from Del Conca's Timeline collection, acts as a link between the various materials thanks to its natural and elegant effect.

The importance of choosing the right materials is not just a question of aesthetics, but also of performance. Every surface, from the technical flooring, Timeline by Del Conca, to the handcrafted boiserie, has been selected to meet requirements in terms of hygiene, durability, and acoustic reverberation, without ever betraying the minimalist language of the project.

Timeline by Ceramica del Conca is a collection of porcelain stoneware that combines the industrial aesthetics of concrete with a touch of contemporary elegance, thanks in part to its large formats. The surfaces, inspired by cement floors, transform austerity into warmth thanks to a very wide color range and a soft aesthetic. The modernity of Timeline is expressed through graphic marks that, integrated into the material, give spaces a distinctive expressive character. Ten shades are available, from classic colors such as gray, white, beige, and taupe to warm colors such as Canyon, Sun, Nightfall, and Coral, and decorative patterns such as Seventy-nine and Botanical, offering a vast palette for customizing architectural spaces.

The excellence of a complex project such as the Clinica Odontoiatria e Salute S.r.l in Leonforte lies in the management of the executive details. Each piece of furniture is custom-made by local craftsmen based on specific technical designs by the Af Architetti studio. Only through meticulous project management was it possible to ensure perfect correspondence between the design “blueprint” and the finished work.
