The remote communities of Kalala-Diboko and Musefu, located in Kasai Central in the Democratic Republic of Congo, an isolated region lacking adequate infrastructure, finally have real hope for improved healthcare conditions. The project for a healthcare facility with four wards, launched in 2016, has been completed with the essential contribution of the Del Conca Group's stakeholders, who adopted it as their two-year Christmas project for 2023. This funding has enabled the completion of ward no. 4, the pediatrics and inpatient ward, with structural work, flooring, painting, installation of electrical and plumbing systems, and the purchase of furniture. The fourth ward, the largest, measures 224 square meters plus verandas and houses the departments, with 30 beds. The three pavilions housing the operating room, delivery room, analysis laboratory, radiology department, and various clinics had already been operational for several months.
The completion of the hospital center will have a significant impact on the quality of life of the local population, ensuring essential health and care services.
Despite challenges such as armed conflict and logistical difficulties, the center now offers vital services such as an operating room, a maternity ward, and first aid clinics. Its construction was a necessary response to the urgent health needs of a population of approximately 45,000 people living in conditions of extreme geographical isolation. Access to care was limited by two large rivers, the Lulua and the Luiza, which have no bridges and are crossed by dugout canoes made from tree trunks.
Thanks to the CENTRE HOSPITALIER DE KALALA-DIBOKO hospital project, these communities can now benefit from more accessible and often life-saving medical care, even in cases of childbirth or infection.
