In the evocative setting of Mondello, Palermo, Casa JEI is a newly built single-family villa embodying a contemporary architectural approach defined by clean, minimalist volumes. The project is distinguished by the skilful overlapping of architectural elements, which creates dynamic geometric compositions, and by a distinctive smoke-grey volume at the top, defining the building’s profile against the sky while conveying a sense of lightness and modernity.

The villa is arranged over two levels, with a clear functional distinction between the spaces. The upper floor is entirely dedicated to the sleeping area and includes a master bedroom with a spacious walk-in wardrobe and a private bathroom, ensuring privacy and comfort.

The ground floor forms the heart of the living area, where an open-plan space accommodates the living room and kitchen. At its centre, a bespoke architectural element assumes a multifunctional role. In addition to acting as a partial divider that defines the internal circulation, it incorporates a wardrobe, an open wine cabinet and a decorative bench, optimising the available space while enriching the overall composition.

A refined sense of discretion characterises the guest bathroom, concealed behind an imposing lacquered wall panelling. Access is provided by a full-height flush door that blends seamlessly into the panelling, transforming a functional necessity into a distinctive furnishing detail.

The kitchen extends for three metres along one wall and is completed by a central island. This arrangement encourages a direct and fluid relationship with the dining table, making the space particularly suited to convivial living.

The choice of materials and the attention to detail are key elements of the Casa JEI project. All the wooden elements were custom designed, with walnut predominating throughout the interiors and lending warmth and a sense of understated luxury. The visual thread connecting the entire living area is provided by the marble-effect porcelain stoneware from Del Conca’s Boutique Onice Fantastico collection. With its expressive veining and luminous appearance, the surface evokes the splendour of natural onyx while offering the practicality and durability of porcelain stoneware. Its presence creates a sophisticated continuity, harmoniously connecting the different areas of the home.

The staircase connecting the two levels, accessible from the entrance, is a design feature in its own right. Crafted in wood with cantilevered floating treads, it is illuminated by step lights that emphasise its visual lightness. The handrail in bronze-tinted smoked glass is completed by matt-gold fixing elements, adding a further note of refinement and contemporary character.
